Waypoint is a documentation tool for anyone who inspects buildings and sites. You walk and talk while it captures voice, timestamped photos and video on one timeline, then hands back a condition report, snag list and actions, with every claim traced to the exact moment you said it.

What it does
People who inspect physical places spend their evenings typing up what they already said out loud on site. A tradie walks a job for twenty minutes, then loses ninety minutes that night writing the quote. A building inspector blocks Sunday mornings for report writing. The information was all captured on site, in their head and their camera roll. It just is not organised, and re-organising it is unpaid, hated work that delays the invoice.
Waypoint removes that second shift. You hold the phone out and talk as you walk. It records video and audio continuously, transcribes on device as you speak, and files what you say as structured callouts: defect, issue, hazard, cost, action, measure. Photos you snap are stamped to the exact moment on the timeline, so they attach themselves to the right sentence. When you tap End, the document assembles itself: a summary, observations with photo evidence, actions with owners, and any spoken figures flagged for a quick confirm.
The result is that by the time you walk out the door, the report is already drafted.
How it works
- Walk and talk. One continuous capture holds voice, video and timestamped photos on a single timeline. Because you hold the phone out to film, the microphone is already pointed where you are looking.
- Callouts, as you speak. On-device transcription turns spoken observations into typed callouts in real time, colour-coded by type, so you can see the record building as you go.
- One tap to assemble. The transcript, photos and timestamps are read together and returned as a structured document: summary, observations, actions, and figures to confirm.
- Every claim is traceable. Tap any line and Waypoint plays the exact spoken moment it came from. The evidence sits behind the words.
Who it is for
Anyone whose job includes walking a site and producing a document afterwards: trades and building services quoting jobs and scoping works, building and pest inspectors, insurance assessors and restorers, architects and shopfitters on site visits and factory QA, and asset and facilities teams. Because the same person may quote a job on Monday and inspect their own factory on Tuesday, Waypoint supports more than one template per user: one walk, many documents.
The long game
Walk-and-talk reporting already exists and is commoditising fast. Waypoint’s bet is on what nobody else keeps: the full video of every walk. Held from day one, that footage becomes a spatial record of a place, change detection across repeat visits, and a vision coach that helps a junior capture like a senior. None of it needs to ship on day one. It needs the video kept from day one, which costs storage and nothing else.
Status and availability
Waypoint is in early development on iOS. The current build is a proof of concept, proving the riskiest part first: that talk, timestamped photos and video going in produce correct, source-linked work items coming out. It is built for iOS 26 and up, where on-device transcription is fast, accurate and offline. A wider release will follow once the core capture-to-document loop is proven on real walks.
