Privacy Policy — Murmur

Effective 2026-05-24

This policy describes how Murmur (“the app”, “we”) handles your data. Read it carefully.

In one sentence

Murmur does not collect, transmit, or share any data about you with anyone, ever. Everything stays on your device.

What we collect

Nothing leaves your device. Specifically:

  • We do not use accounts, sign-in, or registration.
  • We do not include analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting.
  • We do not include advertising, tracking pixels, or third-party SDKs.
  • We do not transmit your library, listening history, or sleep data anywhere.
  • We do not have a server. There is no “Murmur backend”.

Apple Health

If you enable sleep rewind, Murmur asks for read-only access to your sleep history through Apple Health (HealthKit).

  • Murmur reads only the timestamps of when sleep was detected and when you woke up.
  • Murmur does not read heart rate, activity, weight, or any other Health data.
  • Murmur does not write data to Apple Health.
  • Sleep timestamps are used only locally, to calculate where to rewind your audiobook to.
  • Sleep timestamps are not transmitted off your device, ever.
  • You can revoke Apple Health access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Murmur.

Audiobook files

Audiobook files you import into Murmur are stored in the app’s container on your device. They never leave your device through Murmur. The bundled onboarding tutorials Welcome to Murmur and Tips & Tricks are also stored locally.

Listening history

Your playback position, finished status, and sleep-rewind history are stored locally in the app’s container.

If you use the Back up listening history feature in Settings, Murmur writes a small file containing this metadata that you choose where to save (Files app, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, etc.). Once written, that file is yours to manage — Murmur does not access or read it again unless you tap Restore listening history and pick the file.

Children

Murmur is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. We do not collect data from anyone else either, since we do not collect data at all.
